Job summary

RigUp is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Designer to provide engineering services to clients in the Reading, PA area. You will apply advanced design methods to produce drafting packages, layouts, sections, elevations and details for facilities and equipment, with a focus on instrumentation and controls.

Responsibilities include coordinating instrumentation drawings, leading 3D model reviews in SmartPlant 3D, and ensuring designs meet client specifications.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in instrumentation design and drafting with discipline-specific training.
• Proven experience in electrical design and drafting workflows.
• Experience with 3D model reviews and client design reviews.

• Design and execute instrumentation and controls projects with strong drafting output.
• Develop layouts, plans, sections, elevations, and details for facilities and equipment.
• Coordinate instrumentation drawings with project teams and clients.
• Lead 3D model reviews and ensure drawings meet client specifications.
• Support QA practices and travel to job sites for walkdowns as needed.

Job description

You will provide instrumentation and controls engineering services to the company and its customers.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Execution

• Work independently to complete demanding assignments through the application of advanced design theories, techniques, and practices on several small and medium size projects
• Perform moderately to difficult drafting assignments requiring a working knowledge of established drafting techniques, standards, practices, and software
• Understand and apply company procedures as they pertain to the instrumentation and controls discipline
• Develop layouts, plans, sections, elevations, and details for facilities, equipment, etc. from reference drawings or catalogs
• Perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings

Drawing Development & Coordination

• Oversee the preparation of design and detail drawings from sketches, plans, or other design/specification data
• Ensure drawings are in accordance with client requirements and relevant project specifications
• Coordinate all instrumentation and controls drawings
• Participate in 3D model reviews using Smart Plant 3D
• Work within a team environment with a minimum of supervision and to customer, company, and industry standards
• Direct the work of junior designers and ensure quality deliverables
• Participate in design reviews with various clients
• Advise on technical design and drafting issues and compliance requirements as appropriate

Quality Assurance & Project Delivery

• Demonstrate a proven track record of completing a given work scope within time and budget constraints
• Work within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the project
• Travel to job sites to perform site walkdowns to document as-installed conditions

What You Will Bring

Technical & Industry Experience

• 5+ years of experience in electrical design
• Experience with Smartplant Instrumentation (SPI), AutoCAD, and MicroStation design software packages (AVEVA E3D is a plus)
• Experience with Smart Plant 3D and participation in 3D model reviews
• Knowledge of the fundamental requirements of instrumentation and controls
• Proficient in the use of relevant software (MS Office Suite)

Education & Qualifications

Required:

• Degree or Diploma in instrumentation design and drafting with discipline-specific training

Preferred:

• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in electrical design and drafting
