Job summary

GTI Energy in the Chicagoland area seeks an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer for our Research & Engineering group. This lab-based role focuses on developing and deploying instrumentation, controls, and connected systems, collaborating with engineers and scientists on energy technology projects.

The candidate will mentor engineers, develop cost estimates, document work, and contribute to field demonstrations at GTI Energy facilities and partner sites.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience after a B.S. (or 8+ after M.S.; 5+ after Ph.D.)
• Experience with automation programming (LabVIEW or AB PLCs)
• Experience with instrumentation, flow meters, and troubleshooting control systems
• Experience with industrial protocols (MODBUS, OPC, Ethernet)
• Experience in wiring diagrams for control systems

Responsibilities

• Mentor and train a team of engineers on data logging and control systems for lab and field-site demonstrations
• Develop cost estimates and provide input on project proposals
• Research components, hardware, and software that meet requirements
• Document work using written, graphical, and presentation formats
• Assist in hands-on development, construction, and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems onsite and off-site
• Perform other duties as assigned
