Job summary

Bowman in Arizona seeks an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer III to join our team. You will perform advanced I&C engineering and design, mentor junior staff, and ensure compliance with codes and client requirements to deliver safe, reliable facilities.

You will lead instrumentation and control deliverables, coordinate with vendors, support FAT and commissioning, and contribute to project estimates and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or related field) is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
• 5+ years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience in industrial, energy, oil and gas facilities.
• Experience with process simulation software such as HYSYS, UniSim, ProMax, and/or VMG Symmetry preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong understanding of instrumentation, process controls, automation systems, and industrial networking concepts.
• Working knowledge of NEC, API, NFPA, ISA and other standards.
• Experience reviewing vendor documentation and equipment packages.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations and develop technical documentation accurately.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop instrumentation engineering deliverables including Instrument Indexes, Data Sheets, Installation Details, Location Plans, Wiring Diagrams, Loop Diagrams and Panel Drawings.
• Lead development of controls deliverables: I/O Lists, Control Narratives, Cause-and-Effect Diagrams, and System Architecture documentation.
• Design and implement control systems for pumps, compressors, valves, and other equipment.
• Coordinate with third-party control system suppliers to ensure project compliance with specifications.
• Participate in FAT and support commissioning activities as required.
• Prepare material requisitions, review vendor bids, and evaluate technical compliance for equipment selection.
• Review vendor documentation and equipment packages for conformance with project requirements.
• Develop and review P&IDs; perform instrument sizing and related calculations.
• Ensure instrumentation and control systems meet industry codes and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct field visits and site inspections to support design and execution.
• Manage project responsibilities including cost estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and invoicing support.
