Purpose
Responsible for performing advanced instrumentation and controls engineering and design activities for industrial and energy-related facilities. This position applies specialized technical expertise to develop, coordinate, and execute I&C engineering deliverables that support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of facilities. Serves as a technical resource for project teams, contributes to project planning and execution, mentors less experienced staff, and ensures compliance with applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and company procedures.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
- Receive broad guidance from senior management regarding project objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters while exercising independent judgment in the execution of assigned work.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and designers.
- Review engineering work products for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with quality standards.
- Mentor less experienced engineers by sharing technical knowledge, providing project guidance, and supporting professional development.
At the Operational/Company Level
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, quality management procedures, and project safety requirements.
- Support business development activities through technical input for proposals, scope development, and project estimates.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
- Promote effective communication and coordination across engineering disciplines.

- Lead the development of controls engineering deliverables, including:
- I/O Lists
- Control Narratives
- Cause-and-Effect Diagrams
- Control System Architecture Documentation
- Design and implement control systems for pumps, compressors, valves, and other process equipment.
- Coordinate with third-party control system suppliers to ensure compliance with project specifications and design requirements.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and support commissioning activities as required.
- Develop material requisitions, review vendor bids, evaluate technical compliance, and provide recommendations for equipment selection.
- Review vendor documentation and equipment packages for conformance with project requirements.
- Participate in the development and review of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Perform instrument sizing and related engineering calculations for control valves, flow measurement devices, thermowells, and other instrumentation components.
- Ensure instrumentation and control systems meet applicable industry codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
- Conduct field visits, site inspections, and assessments to support engineering design and project execution.
- Manage assigned project responsibilities, including cost estimating, budgeting, scheduling, progress tracking, resource planning, and invoicing support.
- Produce engineering deliverables in accordance with the project RACI matrix and established company standards and procedures.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure deliverables are completed in alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews, including peer reviews, interdisciplinary checks, and redline reviews.
- Identify project risks and technical challenges and develop practical solutions to maintain project objectives.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training programs, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Five or more (5+) years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience supporting industrial, energy, oil and gas, or related facilities.
- Experience with process simulation software such as HYSYS, UniSim, ProMax, and/or VMG Symmetry preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong understanding of instrumentation, process controls, automation systems, and industrial networking concepts.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations, including NEC, API, NFPA, ISA, and other relevant standards.
- Experience reviewing vendor documentation, technical specifications, and equipment packages.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and develop technical documentation with a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously.
