Job summary

Muon Space seeks a Senior Instrument Scientist responsible for Simulation to own and advance end-to-end instrument performance modeling for on-orbit capability. You will build virtual instruments and digital twins that reflect actual hardware and translate simulation results into operating requirements for flight software and mission systems.

You will drive prediction accuracy, coordinate across Instrument Systems and Flight Software, and participate in a monthly on-call cycle to resolve

Qualifications

• 5+ years coding and simulating performance for imaging systems or related hardware.
• Experience building instrument models or simulations (radiometric, geometric, optical, or systems-level).
• Proficient in Python, Julia, or C++, with maintainable shared-code experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain end-to-end instrument performance simulations from optical to on-orbit capability.
• Build the virtual instrument and digital twin of on-orbit hardware and align with as-built performance.
• Define flight software inputs for modes, sensor readout, and scanner control from results.
• Support on-orbit monitoring and anomaly investigation; feed lessons into models.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for on-orbit anomaly resolution.
