Job summary

JF&CS Boston is seeking a Director of Institutional Giving to lead and grow its institutional fundraising program. This senior strategist will deepen foundation relationships, secure grants, and supervise one staff member, driving long-term philanthropic growth.

The role requires a minimum of 7 years in fundraising with a strong track record in foundation relations and outstanding writing ability. This is a full-time hybrid position based in Waltham, MA, with at least three days per week in

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, with a strong track record in foundation relations.
• Demonstrated success securing five- and six-figure grants and building long-term funder relationships.
• Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports.
• Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate complex program work into clear cases for support.
• Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring staff preferred.
• A highly collaborative, relationship-oriented approach and the ability to work effectively across teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a growth-oriented foundation relations strategy aligned with fundraising goals.
• Grow fundraising from institutional funders through cultivation, planning and solicitation.
• Manage a portfolio of foundation funders with annual relation plans.
• Ensure timely submission of proposals, reports, grant agreements, budgets, and stewardship materials.
• Develop strong grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and narratives.
• Maintain communication with funders about priorities, impact, and opportunities.
• Collaborate with program, finance, and leadership to align outcomes with funding needs.
• Coach and mentor foundation relations staff to strengthen fundraising effectiveness.
