Job summary

Addison Group is seeking a Senior Inpatient Coding Auditor for a fully remote contract in the United States. The role focuses on auditing complex inpatient accounts in a Level I Trauma/Teaching Hospital setting and providing real-time feedback to coding staff.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of inpatient coding, AAPC/AHIMA certification, and strong ICD-10-CM/PCS knowledge, with Epic and 3M 360 experience preferred. Start ASAP; long-term extension possible.

Qualifications

  • Active AAPC or AHIMA certification.
  • Minimum 5 years inpatient coding experience.
  • Strong experience in Level I Trauma/Teaching Hospital environment.
  • Experience coding/auditing high-dollar complex cases and Moms/Babies.
  • Must score 85%+ on the inpatient coding assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Audit Level I Trauma and teaching hospital inpatient accounts.
  • Review high-dollar inpatient cases (e.g., $350K+).
  • Validate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS code assignment and sequencing.
  • Provide real-time feedback to coders based on audit findings.
  • Utilize Epic and 3M 360 to review accounts and complete audits.
  • Maintain approx. 2 audits per hour with 95% quality.

About Our Client

Our client is a large healthcare organization seeking an experienced Senior Inpatient Coding Auditor to support its inpatient coding and auditing team. This is a remote contract opportunity with the potential for extension and permanent conversion based on performance and business needs.

Job Description

The Senior Inpatient Coding Auditor will be responsible for auditing complex inpatient accounts within a Level I Trauma/Teaching Hospital environment. This position will review coder-assigned accounts, validate coding accuracy, and provide real-time feedback to coding staff.

The auditor will work from an assigned queue consisting of a variety of complex and high-dollar inpatient cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Audit inpatient coding for complex Level I Trauma and teaching hospital accounts
  • Review cases involving Trauma, NICU, Moms/Babies, Spinal Fusions, Internal Medicine, Cardiology/Vascular, TAVR, Kidney Transplants, and other complex inpatient services
  • Audit high-dollar inpatient accounts, including cases valued at $350K+
  • Validate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS code assignment, sequencing, and documentation
  • Utilize Epic and 3M 360 to review accounts and complete coding audits
  • Provide coders with real-time feedback based on audit findings
  • Maintain approximately 2 audits per hour
  • Maintain a 95% quality/accuracy standard
  • Work accounts based on assigned queue, discharge date, and account value
Qualifications
  • Active AAPC or AHIMA coding certification required
  • Minimum 5 years of inpatient coding experience
  • Strong experience within a Level I Trauma and/or Teaching Hospital environment
  • Must have experience coding/auditing both high-dollar complex cases AND Moms/Babies
  • Strong ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS knowledge
  • Experience with Epic and 3M 360 highly preferred
  • Experience auditing inpatient coders and providing coding feedback preferred
  • Must score 85% or higher on the required inpatient coding assessment
Additional Details
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday
  • Available schedules include 7:00 AM–3:30 PM EST or 8:00 AM–4:30 PM EST
  • Position Type: Contract with potential for extension or permanent conversion
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Candidates will complete an inpatient coding assessment followed by a Teams interview
  • Assessment includes ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and provider-related questions
  • Computer equipment will be provided
  • Candidates must have a working camera and microphone for the interview
