Job summary

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking an Inpatient Medical Coder 3 for a remote position. The coder will perform retrospective coding of inpatient records using ICD-10-CM/PCS, assign DRGs, and abstract data elements critical to reimbursement and reporting.

Requires 2+ years inpatient coding experience and credentials (RHIT, RHIA, or CCS). Collaboration with CDI and revenue cycle partners is essential to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• RHIT, RHIA or CCS credentialed.
• 2+ years inpatient hospital coding experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG assignment.
• 4-6 years inpatient coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• retrospectively code inpatient records at discharge with accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding.
• Assign principal and secondary diagnoses and appropriate DRGs (MS-DRG/APR-DRG).
• Abstract required data elements (admission source/type, discharge disposition, attending physicians).
• Collaborate with CDI specialists, physician advisors, and revenue cycle partners to ensure compliant coding.
