Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group in the Midwest seeks an Executive Underwriter with senior Inland Marine experience to lead portfolio strategy, mentor junior underwriters, and partner with agents to grow profitable business.

This full-time role offers a hybrid or remote work option, exposure to strategy development, and a collaborative, high-performing team focused on underwriting excellence and sustainable growth. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or experience equivalent; professional designations preferred.
• 10+ years of Inland Marine underwriting experience.
• Strong knowledge in underwriting, book management, marketing, and product development.
• Ability to coach underwriters and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; capable of influencing across levels.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal business, and endorsements; meet targets.
• Drive profitability and growth while ensuring portfolio quality.
• Lead and mentor junior underwriters; oversee portfolio management.
• Collaborate with agents and leaders to expand business opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements; monitor performance.
