Job summary

IAT Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Inland Marine & Property Underwriter in a hybrid role with in-office presence Monday–Wednesday and remote Thursday–Friday. The role covers inland marine and property lines across Jersey City or Newark, NJ; Norristown, PA; or Cheshire, CT.

You will grow a profitable book, work closely with brokers, and shape deals through pricing, risk assessment, and structured coverage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
• 4+ years of inland marine and/or property underwriting experience.
• Strong understanding of insurance marketplace, pricing and competitive positioning.
• Proven ability to build and maintain broker relationships that drive new and renewal business.
• Experience managing a book of business and contributing to growth.
• Strong pricing, risk selection, and deal‑structuring skills.
• Knowledge of industry trends, products, and competitive landscape.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow a profitable Inland Marine and Property book across regions.
• Build strong relationships with agency partners to drive new business.
• Evaluate submissions, pricing and coverage structures with sound judgment.
• Analyze loss runs, exposure changes, and underwriting data to understand risk.
• Set pricing reflecting exposure and performance using analysis and experience.
• Structure accounts with deductibles or coverage adjustments to close deals.
• Review policy language for coverage clarity for brokers and internal teams.
• Collaborate with claims and internal stakeholders to clarify coverage when needed.
• Perform other duties as required.
