Job summary

County of San Mateo is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and maintain complex enterprise server infrastructure including Windows Server, AD, IdP integration, and hybrid cloud environments. You will lead technical projects, monitor systems, and provide expert guidance during incidents.

The role requires advanced virtualization expertise (VMware vCenter/ESXi, Nutanix), Windows/Linux administration, and automation with SCCM/PowerShell.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience administering enterprise server infrastructure with Windows Server.
• Advanced AD design, domain/forest administration, group policy, DNS, replication, trusts, and enterprise-scale AD.
• Experience with IdP in hybrid cloud environments (Okta, OAuth, MFA, Entra ID, Azure AD Connect).
• Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware vCenter/ESXi, Nutanix); Hyper-V a plus.
• Experience managing servers and core infrastructure in hybrid/cloud environments (on-prem, cloud, monitoring, backup, DR).
• Windows Server administration incl. installation, hardening, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and automation at scale.
• Linux server administration in enterprise environments.
• Infrastructure automation/tools such as SCCM, Ansible, PowerShell, scripting.
• Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, install, configure, and monitor server infrastructure upgrades and backups.
• Provide real-time monitoring to detect outages and resource shortages.
• Lead technical projects and liaise with vendors and staff; develop documentation and training.
• Provide guidance during major incidents and coordinate resolutions with stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to security, backup, and disaster recovery best practices.
