Saragossa in New York is hiring a second-in-command to scale the firm's private cloud platform used by a multi-billion dollar hedge fund. This role centers on building a robust on-prem and virtualized environment that the firm actually runs on.

You will own scaling the platform, define DR and backup strategies, and drive cost-conscious sizing of new projects, with hands-on scripting in Python and Bash to automate routine tasks. On-site presence four days a week in NYC is required.

A multi-billion dollar systematic hedge fund in NYC runs its own private cloud. Everyday IT is outsourced, so the in-house team spends its time on the platform the firm actually runs on. That platform is growing, and they're hiring a second in command to help scale it.

What you'll own

• Scaling the physical and virtual platform: servers, enterprise storage, virtualisation, capacity
• Reliability, disaster recovery and backup strategy for regulated data
• Costing and sizing new projects, with real say over a multi-million dollar budget
• Automating the routine work with practical Python and Bash

You'll need

• The ability to build a server from scratch and explain every decision along the way: hardware, storage layout, OS, virtualisation, networking
• Hands-on experience running on-prem or colo infrastructure, not just AWS or Azure
• Strong Linux and virtualisation skills (VMware, KVM, Proxmox, OpenStack or similar)
• A clear view on DR and backup options, their trade-offs, and what changes when the data is regulated
• Commercial sense: what a system costs, why, and whether there's a better option
