Job summary

Esper is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Infrastructure to own the cloud infrastructure and platform security posture. This senior individual contributor role works with one other infra engineer; security and compliance are central due to government customers at state, local, and federal levels.

You'll set the technical direction, build automation, and enable developers to integrate with reliable, secure infrastructure while partnering with auditors and security teams to meet SOC 2 Type II

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years in Platform/Infrastructure/Cloud/Security roles.
• Experience with SOC 2 / ISO 27001 controls and audits.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Python, Go, or Rust.
• Experience with automation and internal tools development.
• Production infrastructure management on AWS or similar clouds.
• Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform experience.
• Ability to mentor engineers and set technical direction.
• Strong communication and technical documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Own design, operation, and reliability of cloud infrastructure.
• Set infra direction and roadmap with engineering leadership.
• Develop core software bridging product and infrastructure.
• Create libraries and tooling to simplify integration with infra.
• Develop tooling to improve developer efficiency.
• Lead incident response and reliability improvements.
• Implement and monitor SOC 2 / ISO 27001 controls.
• Serve as engineering lead for audits and assessments.
• Support government sales security questionnaires and due diligence.
• Provide mentorship and design reviews.
