Job summary
BigRio is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to back up the primary infrastructure lead and independently manage core on-prem servers, storage, networking, and security. The role operates in a hybrid IT/clinical environment to ensure throughput and availability of critical systems in healthcare genomics.
Responsibilities include patching, capacity planning, DR documentation, and incident response. Collaboration with bioinformatics and IT teams is essential for reliable lab workflows.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of hands-on enterprise IT infrastructure engineering in a predominantly on-premises environment.
- Bachelor's degree in IT/CS or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Deep expertise in server administration (Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, Linux) with VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Strong networking fundamentals: routing, switching, VLANs, firewall policy management (Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, or equivalent).
- Experience managing physical data center environments (rack/stack, cabling, power, cooling).
- Proficiency with SAN/NAS storage platforms and enterprise backup/recovery systems (Veeam, Commvault, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure Active Directory in hybrid on-prem/cloud contexts.

- Administer physical and virtual server infrastructure (Windows Server, Linux, VMware/Hyper-V), including provisioning, patching, and capacity planning.

- Build and maintain runbooks, network diagrams, and disaster recovery documentation.
- Support on-premises genomics pipeline infrastructure to meet throughput and availability requirements.
- Collaborate with bioinformatics, clinical lab, and IT teams to align infrastructure reliability with lab workflows.
- Identify and remediate infrastructure risks including aging hardware and configuration vulnerabilities.
- Respond to infrastructure incidents and outages, including after-hours escalations.

Overview
A healthcare/genomics organization is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to serve as the designated backup and knowledge-continuity resource for its on-premises data center and network environment. This role ensures uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure supporting a genomics pipeline and clinical laboratory systems, and works to eliminate single points of failure in IT operations. The engineer will independently operate all core on-premises infrastructure - servers, storage, networking, and security systems - including emergency coverage of the primary infrastructure lead, in a hybrid IT/clinical operations environment.

- Relevant certifications: CCNA/CCNP, VCP-DCV, MCSE, CompTIA Network+/Security+.
- Familiarity with HPC or high-throughput bioinformatics pipeline infrastructure.
- Exposure to HIPAA compliance, NIST frameworks, or SOC 2 audit environments.
- Scripting proficiency (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for infrastructure automation.
- Experience with monitoring platforms (PRTG, SolarWinds, Zabbix, or similar).
