Job summary

Vertech Industrial Systems, LLC is seeking a Senior Industrial Network Engineer based in Arizona or remote in the US to design, implement, and secure industrial networks across clients in manufacturing, energy, water, and more.

You will lead network projects, mentor junior staff, and ensure compliance with NERC CIP while supporting Vertech’s internal networks and security posture.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in CIS, MIS, or similar, or 7 years of successful industrial networking experience.
• 5+ years leading a company’s internal IT or OT department.
• CCNP or CCIE certification, or equivalent experience supporting Cisco or similar switches/firewalls.
• Extensive experience designing secure network infrastructure from ground up and in existing systems.
• Understanding of IP protocols and ability to analyze network traffic.
• Experience with industrial protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and OPC.
• Knowledge of NERC CIP, NIST, and ISA/IEC 62443 standards.
• GICSP/GSEC/CISSP/CISM preferred.
• Experience in Energy vertical (solar PV, BESS, utilities) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintain, and support secure communication networks for clients and Vertech.
• Design and implement network security equipment (firewalls, ACLs).
• Architect segmented industrial networks per Purdue Model and ISA/IEC 62443 zones.
• Install, configure Cisco switches/routers and other devices important to operations.
• Design secure, highly available networks for solar PV and storage sites including SCADA and secure remote access.
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues in wired/wireless networks; coordinate with vendors.
• Perform network audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing; recommend mitigations.
• Support NERC CIP compliance through documentation and access controls.
• Lead network projects, mentor engineers, and improve Vertech internal networks.
• Lead internal training and author case studies and articles.

What You Will Be Doing

• Design, implement, maintain, and support secure communication networks for our clients and for our own organization
• Design and implement network security equipment such as firewalls, rule sets, and ACLs
• Architect segmented industrial networks using the Purdue Model and ISA/IEC 62443 zones and conduits
• Install, set up, and configure Cisco switches, routers, access points, and other devices vital to business and industrial operations
• Design secure, highly available networks for solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) sites, including SCADA, power plant control, and secure remote access
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues and outages in wired (802.3) and wireless (802.11) TCP/IP networks, coordinating with third-party vendors when needed
• Perform network audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing at client facilities and recommend mitigation strategies
• Support client NERC CIP compliance through network documentation, access controls, and reporting
• Act as the technical lead on network projects, lead small teams, and mentor less experienced engineers
• Support and improve Vertech’s internal corporate network
• Lead internal training and write case studies and articles that share what you know

What You Need for this Position

• Four-year degree in CIS, MIS, or similar, or 7 years of successful industrial networking experience
• 5+ years leading a company’s internal IT or OT department
• CCNP or CCIE certification, or equivalent experience supporting Cisco or equivalent managed switches, routers, and firewalls
• Extensive experience designing and implementing secure network infrastructure, both from the ground up and incorporated into existing systems
• Complete understanding of IP protocols and the ability to analyze network traffic to understand communication patterns
• Working knowledge of industrial protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and OPC
• Complete understanding of NERC CIP, NIST, and ISA/IEC 62443 security standards
• Network security certifications such as GICSP, GSEC, CISSP, or CISM preferred
• Experience in the Energy vertical, such as solar PV, BESS, or utility projects, is a big plus
• Experience with Fortinet or Palo Alto Networks firewalls and OT visibility platforms such as Claroty or Nozomi Networks is a plus
• Scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, or Lua
• Excellent communication and customer relationship skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment
