Job summary

Cohu is seeking a senior software engineer to design and develop a Windows desktop application and framework for controlling electro-mechanical test handlers in semiconductor manufacturing. You will lead architecture across motion controllers, I/O, vision, robotics, and sensors, from design through deployment and customer support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Proven extensive software engineering experience (15+ years) in automation or electro-mechanical systems.
• Expert C/C++ skills with OO design and patterns; production-quality code.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and integrate machine control software using C++ and C# in Visual Studio.
• Develop automation software with OO design and design patterns.
• Integrate motion controllers, I/O, vision, robotics, sensors, readers via Windows APIs/SDKs.
• Drive system architecture and design reviews; scalable patterns for variants.
• Own escalation response; troubleshoot with logs and on-equipment debugging; implement preventive actions.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing and Field Service to improve uptime and reliability.
• Build verification strategies reducing recurrence; automate tests and simulations.
• Interface with customers and cross-functional teams to align requirements and release readiness.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical coaching.
