Job summary

Biogen, Inc. in South San Francisco seeks an Associate Director of Immunobiology Open Innovation to drive external collaboration and evaluate novel targets for immune-mediated diseases.

You will lead scientific due diligence, shape program strategy, and mentor teams across discovery and translational efforts. The role requires deep immunology knowledge, drug discovery experience, and strong communication skills to influence senior leadership and external partners.

Qualifications

• PhD in Immunology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, or related field with 8+ years of industry or translational research experience.
• Deep expertise in innate and adaptive immune biology and translational immunology.
• Experience guiding drug discovery strategy through evaluation of targets, mechanisms, and external opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to scientific leadership and external innovation by identifying novel targets, pathways, biomarkers, technologies, and external opportunities.
• Partner with BD, Corporate Strategy, Ventures, and Search & Evaluation to assess scientific merit of external assets and collaborations.
• Support scientific due diligence through mechanistic evaluation, data review, translational assessment, and scientific fit assessment.
• Shape program and portfolio strategy by translating learnings into broader research insights for Immunology RU priorities.
• Guide experimental and translational strategies for in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo studies to elucidate mechanisms and support decision making.
• Generate high-quality, decision-enabling data to inform target validation, lead optimization, and biomarker strategy.
• Collaborate across R&D to support indication expansion and lifecycle planning.
• Synthesize and communicate complex scientific information with rigor for leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Represent the team externally with academic collaborators and external partners, bringing scientific credibility.
• Mentor scientists and contribute to team culture by providing coaching and development support.
