Job summary

SSOE is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Designer in Hillsboro to deliver complete I&C packages for semiconductor facility design-build projects. The role sits in the electrical design group and interfaces process utilities with control systems.

You will develop I&C deliverables, coordinate with process/mechanical utilities, and mentor junior designers while contributing to design standards and templates. A strong background in I&C for industrial environments is essential.

Qualifications

Approximately 10 years of instrumentation and controls design experience in industrial, pharmaceutical, microelectronics, or similar process environments.
Ability to independently produce a complete I&C design package with minimal oversight.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit; familiarity with Navisworks for model coordination.
Working knowledge of PLC/DCS hardware architectures, control panels, and field instrumentation types.
Ability to read P&IDs, one-line diagrams, and process flow diagrams.
Strong knowledge of electrical codes and ISA instrumentation standards.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and licensure/certifications.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain instrument indices, datasheets, and specification packages for process utility systems.
Produce loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, termination schedules, and interconnect drawings from field devices to PLC/DCS/BAS I/O.
Design control panel general arrangements and internal layouts, including terminal schedules and enclosure sizing.
Generate I/O lists and point-to-point schedules, ensuring alignment with controller assignments and spare capacity.
Develop instrument and control cable schedules, conduit schedules, and raceway routing with proper segregation from power circuits.
Model instrument and panel locations in Revit/AutoCAD; participate in clash detection and coordination reviews.
Coordinate power sourcing, UPS-backed circuits, grounding, and shielding practices with electrical designers.
Ensure device placement aligns with piping, HVAC, and structural disciplines for maintenance access.
Support tool hookup packages, including interlocks, flow monitoring, and alarm/status points.
Interface with vendors on control interface requirements and submittals; mentor junior designers.
