Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking an Engineer 6-DCL Hydraulic Modeling Specialist to serve as a technical expert in hydrologic and hydraulic engineering within the Hydraulics Section. This role manages consultant contracts, reviews complex hydraulic models, and develops hydraulic designs for highway and bridge projects.

Qualifications

Must hold a current Louisiana professional engineer license or be eligible for licensure with acceptance of out-of-state licensure and ability to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment.
Two years of licensed engineering experience or six years of professional engineering experience; substitutions for advanced degrees.
Supplemental qualification: two years of professional level engineering experience in hydraulic modeling.

Responsibilities

Manage Consultant contracts for Section 32 ID/IQ projects, including scope, resources, budgets, schedules, and contractor performance.
Review hydrologic/hydraulic models and flood-mitigation projects to avoid adverse flooding impacts.
Maintain statewide hydraulic models and integrate completed projects into existing models.
Develop and evaluate complex hydraulic designs for highways, bridges, drainage and floodplain projects.
Perform engineering calculations for drainage areas, storm frequencies, design discharge and related concerns.
Provide technical support for Watershed Initiative, Flood Control Program, and State highways projects.
Participate in advisory groups and project reviews, offering expert recommendations through all design stages.
Train engineers in hydraulic-modeling methods and applicable software.
