Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Hydraulic Controls Design and Release Engineer (DRE) or Senior DRE for hybrid work in the Warren, MI area. The role focuses on valve body assemblies, solenoids, castings and spacer plates, with collaboration across suppliers and GM plants to ensure quality and timely releases.

The candidate will lead design analyses, support cost and weight reduction, and drive technology for a 5–10 year vision while mentoring teams and ensuring compliance with GM safety standards.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in design and release.
• Demonstrate excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships and resolve issues.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects with autonomy and accountability for results.
• Strong understanding of major automotive subsystems.
• Experience with project management and ability to coach others.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
• Technical writing ability to create engineering evaluation reports.
• Ability to read, interpret and generate engineering drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with CAD and CAE.

Responsibilities

• Design and release of valve body assemblies and related components.
• Ensure global strategies are developed, defined and harmonized.
• Perform complex design analysis and evaluate engineering designs.
• Collaborate with suppliers and GM plants for manufacturing quality improvements.
• Manage engineering changes and ensure timely release and PPAP.
• Lead root cause analysis for field and warranty issues and implement corrective actions.
• Communicate status and risks to leadership and program teams.
• Support mentoring and coaching of engineers and technicians.
