Job summary

Auburn University seeks a Senior Technology Architect to provide strategic leadership across hybrid cloud and on‑prem infrastructure, guiding secure, scalable platforms for cybersecurity, research, and mission-critical deployments.

The role focuses on target-state architectures, roadmaps, and governance, while mentoring teams and aligning technology with program priorities and institutional objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of IT experience in designing and developing technology systems and services.
• Experience leading enterprise or solution architecture for hybrid cloud and on‑prem environments.
• Strong knowledge of cloud, networking, security architecture, governance, and cross-functional leadership.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts to executives and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience guiding security-by-design and compliance across projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for design, integration, and evolution of systems and services to support cybersecurity, research, and operational missions.
• Own target-state architectures across cloud and on‑prem compute, storage, networking, IAM, observability, and DR, including roadmaps.
• Translate requirements into scalable designs, BOMs, integration plans, security requirements, operating models, and lifecycle cost estimates.
• Establish architecture principles, reference patterns, standards, and review gates aligned with program priorities.
• Lead modernization efforts, identify gaps in performance, capacity, reliability, security, and cost.
• Provide technical leadership for hybrid cloud platforms, IAM, PKI, containers, IaC, pipelines, and service operations.
• Collaborate with AI, software, cybersecurity, PM, research, and delivery teams to align architecture with roadmaps and security-by-design.
• Research emerging technologies, evaluate vendors, define acceptance criteria, and ensure interoperable and secure outcomes.
• Advise leadership on investments and infrastructure priorities with clear tradeoffs.
• Guide migration, integration, HA, monitoring, recovery, and cross-system troubleshooting.
• Mentor and coordinate teams to transfer knowledge and sustain architectural ownership.
