Job summary

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction seeks an Air Quality Technician 2 at Chillicothe Correctional Institution. This permanent, full-time role leads lower-level technicians and oversees maintenance of HVAC systems in a secured state facility.

The position requires blueprint literacy, material estimation, tool control, and adherence to security protocols while performing preventive maintenance and repairs including welding, with emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• EPA 608 certification or equivalent for HVAC technicians.
• Verifiable experience in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance, repair & installation.
• Blueprint reading skills and ability to interpret schematics.
• Hands-on experience with hand and power tools; welding experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead worker over lower-level air quality technicians and incarcerated individuals in installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC systems.
• Perform highly skilled maintenance and installation on HVAC equipment.
• Inspect operation of equipment; perform preventive maintenance schedules.
• Repair air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems.
• Replace or repair pumps, fan motors, thermostats and filters.
• Weld as required and inspect installed equipment for proper assembly.
• Determine materials, provide cost estimates, and submit purchase requests.
• Read blueprints and/or schematic diagrams.
• Maintain inventory of HVAC supplies and tool control forms.
• Perform semi-skilled carpentry, painting, electrical, sheet metal and HVAC tasks as needed.
• Ensure compliance with security regulations and participate in institutional committees.
• Attend training, seminars and meetings; support inmate movement and other security duties.
