Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission seeks a Senior HVAC Mechanic to maintain complex HVAC systems at Terrell State Hospital, ensuring safe, uninterrupted service in line with state codes. The role involves installation, inspection, repair, and coordination of preventive maintenance for critical hospital equipment.

Candidates should have HVAC experience, EPA 608 certification, and be capable of leading projects, training staff, and documenting work while complying with life safety

Qualifications

• 18 months experience HVAC mechanic or technician.
• 18 months experience using HVAC tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of HVAC installation, repair, maintenance, life safety codes, and electrical distribution.
• Skills in diagnostics, preventive maintenance, tool use, and reading schematics.
• Strong communication, teamwork, independent judgment, and ability to teach others.
• Valid Texas driver's license and ability to meet driver requirements.

Responsibilities

• Install, adjust, inspect, maintain, repair, and restore HVAC units and controls.
• Maintain refrigeration units such as ice machines and walk‑ins.
• Lead HVAC projects, train and supervise staff on equipment use.
• Document inspections and equipment performance in records.
• Assist in air quality sampling, monitor environmental controls, and troubleshoot.
• Coordinate parts, schedule preventive maintenance, and follow life safety codes.
• Operate vehicles and perform general maintenance tasks as part of facilities.
• Participate in disaster response and continuity of operations when required.
