Job summary

Capstone Mechanical in Waco, TX seeks a Senior Service Technician to perform a wide range of HVAC servicing for industrial and commercial customers at our local facility.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; visa sponsorship is not available. This role involves diagnosing, leading service tasks, training staff, and coordinating with the service team for timely, quality workmanship.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent with two-year HVAC program.
• Five+ years of HVAC experience as a commercial service or installation technician.
• Strong reading and speaking skills; ability to communicate with customers, suppliers and coworkers.
• Physical ability to perform duties under varied conditions and weather.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate fleet vehicles.
• Willingness to be trained in sales techniques and develop leads.
• Ability to work under time pressure, non-standard schedules and backlog constraints.

Responsibilities

• Provide decisive, tactful customer service and effective communication with customer groups.
• Diagnose and efficiently complete service jobs for customers and the company.
• Interact with service customers, technicians, Service Manager, Dispatcher and Parts Runners.
• Assist planning, organization, and coordination of departmental jobs, assignments, and sales.
• Lead by example as a service team member for timely, efficient and profitable job completion.
• Perform special/complex service work and periodic on-call duties as required.
• Train employees on service-related topics and best practices.
• Conduct quality control inspections and monitor progress of new service staff.
• Develop lead referrals for sales staff.
• Support indoor air quality, controls, and installation teams as needed.
• Assist with administration, dispatch, and on-site evaluation work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Located in our Waco, TX facility of Capstone Mechanical the Senior Service Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of HVAC servicing jobs for industrial, commercial customers.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. This position is not eligible for employer visa sponsorship.

Job responsibilities include:

• Customer-based activities involved in this position require an individual who is decisive, tactful, dependable, and who possesses initiative and the ability to communicate well with all customer groups.


• Must be able to accurately diagnose and efficiently accomplish a job to the mutual benefit of the customer and the company.


• Job-related contact can occur with virtually all demographic groups, with the majority of the contacts being with service customers, other technicians, the Service Manager, Dispatcher and Parts Runners.


• Assists in the planning, organization, motivation, control and coordination of the departmental jobs, assignments, and sales.


• Leads by example as an ad hoc service team in the timely, efficient, and profitable accomplishment of an assigned job or task.


• Performs special and complex service jobs without assistance, including performing periodic on-call duties, as required.


• Trains employees on service-related subjects, including call-back prevention, servicing tips, and equipment protocols.


• Conducts quality control inspections of service jobs, monitoring the technical progress of newly assigned service employees, including start-up oversight.


• Develops lead referrals for sales staff.


• Conducts non-service, lead-tech level work in support of the indoor air quality, controls, and installation departments, as assigned.


• Assists with administration, dispatching, and on-site evaluation work.


• Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

• High school graduates and graduates of a post-secondary HVAC program of instruction of two or more years in duration.


• Five or more years of successful and full-time HVAC experience, either as a commercial service or commercial installation technician.


• Good oral and reading skills, including the ability to read and apply manufacturers' instructions and to clearly communicate with, commercial and industrial customers, suppliers, and other employees.


• Physical ability to perform all duties noted above under the conditions, circumstances and extreme weather.


• Current driver's license and the ability to operate all vehicles in the corporate fleet


• Interest, initiative and ability to be trained in low-key point-of-service sales techniques, including developing sales leads, sales of unit replacements, add-on units, IAQ services, and service contracts.


• Ability to work under pressure of time, non-standard schedule, supervision considerations, weather, customer needs, and backlog constraints.

Physical Demands

• Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other HVAC equipment.


• Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials.


• This position requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.


• Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.


• Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work.

Work Environment

• This job operates primarily alone on HVAC and boiler equipment in all environments, which includes extreme cold or heat depending on the time of year.


• Vehicles are used as the base of operations.
