Job summary

CTI in Portland, ME is seeking an experienced HVAC Service Technician to join our service team. This hands-on role covers HVAC service, troubleshooting, building automation, controls, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and technical field support across a wide range of equipment.

You will diagnose mechanical and controls issues, support start-ups, and assist other technicians with advanced troubleshooting and system optimization.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in HVAC mechanical.

• EPA 608 Type II or Universal certification.
• State of Maine Gas License required.

Position Overview:

CTI is looking for an experienced HVAC Service Technician to join our Portland Maine Service team. This is a hands-on field position for a technician with a strong mechanical background who is ready to take on a broader range of work. The role combines HVAC service and troubleshooting with building automation, controls, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and technical field support. You will work on a wide range of HVAC equipment, diagnose mechanical and controls related issues, support system start-ups and commissioning, and assist other technicians with advanced troubleshooting and system optimization. For an experienced HVAC technician looking to build on a strong mechanical foundation while gaining more exposure to building automation, this position offers the opportunity to work across both sides of the industry. Essential Functions:

Controls / HVAC / Mechanical Preventive Maintenance

• Perform service and preventive maintenance on a wide range of HVAC equipment.
• Conduct detailed electro-mechanical inspections and maintain system reliability.
• Diagnose and repair HVAC system issues with accuracy and confidence.
• Perform assisted start-ups of various represented equipment.
• Complete clear, timely service reports, same day of service, with parts used and system findings.
• Ensure all service documentation is updated daily within CTI’s systems. HVAC

Controls & Software Support

• Commission, configure, and program control hardware and software.
• Review system data, alarms, and trends to identify performance opportunities.
• Update firmware, device parameters, and control configurations as needed.
• Assist technicians with advanced troubleshooting and system optimization.

Customer & Field Support

• Deliver professional on-site and remote support with a customer-first mindset.
• Clearly communicate system status, recommendations, and next steps.
• Build strong customer relationships through reliable follow-through and quality service.

Hourly Rate: $30 - $60 per hour

Qualifications & Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in HVAC mechanical.
• Working knowledge of all HVAC system types.
• EPA 608 Type II or Universal.
• State of Maine Gas License.
• Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and control schematics.
• Comfort with diagnostic software, control interfaces, and field instruments.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to travel to various job sites.
• Strong communication skills and a professional presence.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, climb, kneel, and work in mechanical spaces.
• Willingness to work in diverse environmental conditions.

Preferred Requirements

• State of Maine Gas License with Large Appliance Endorsement.
• State of Maine Journeyman or Master Oil License – 1&2 Oils up to 15GPH or larger.
• Building Automation Experience – Niagara and Distech.
• NH Gas License
