Job summary

James Madison University seeks an HVAC Repair Senior Technician to maintain and repair campus HVAC/refrigeration systems. This day shift role includes rotating on-call responsibilities and possible overtime to ensure reliable operation.

The ideal candidate has strong HVAC knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or with a team, with a Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration and related equipment.
• Ability to use test instruments to troubleshoot HVAC/refrigeration systems.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with others.
• On-call/overtime availability.
• Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification.
• Must be at least 19 and have a valid driver's license for 24+ months.

Responsibilities

• Performs repairs and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems and related equipment.
• Inspects equipment and repairs problems promptly.
• Documents refrigerant usage for EPA records.
• Installs equipment to code.
• Proposes replacements for HVAC and refrigeration systems when needed.
• Performs seasonal maintenance for reliable operation.
• Follows university and manufacturer procedures.
• Assists colleagues and provides training to others.
• Manages jobs, orders parts, and keeps tools organized.
• Keeps shop and paperwork organized.
• Cleans and services tools and tests equipment.
