Job summary

Central Michigan University is seeking an HVACR / Controls Technician to install, operate, maintain and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and energy management systems.

The role requires an Associate degree in HVAC, 5+ years of commercial HVACR experience, relevant certifications, and the ability to work independently or in a team. Regular 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. hours; on-call, overtime, weekends and outdoor work are required.

Qualifications

  • Education equivalent to an Associate’s Degree in HVAC.
  • Five years of work experience in commercial HVACR.
  • Type II or IV Refrigerant Handling Technician Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain cooling tower certification within one year.
  • Working knowledge of HVACR controls and installation/adjustment of circuits.
  • Knowledge of computer controls and related equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team with high service standards.
  • Ability to read blueprints/drawings and use email/internet.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to be on-call and lift 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs skilled work in installation, maintenance, and repair of HVACR and related systems.
  • Maintains boilers, air handling, chillers, cooling towers, and related components.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs on steam traps and systems.
  • Maintains HVAC controls and computer interfaces; analyzes system performance.
  • Coordinates with vendors, contractors, and other trades as needed.
  • Plans work, sources materials, and maintains equipment records.
  • Operates tools, meters, and testing devices to diagnose issues.
  • Works outdoors in all seasons and adheres to safety standards.
