Job summary

Hussmann is hiring a technician to diagnose, repair and maintain commercial refrigeration systems in supermarket environments. You will perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot walk-in coolers under supervision, building expertise in HVAC/R techniques.

The role emphasizes hands-on training, strong safety practices, and effective communication with customers. A valid driver’s license, EPA 608 certification, and readiness to work nights/weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• HVAC-R schooling preferred.
• EPA 608 universal certification.
• Minimum 2 years field experience or 0 years with technical school.
• Internal candidates: 1 year as General Laborer with OJT.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on supermarket refrigeration systems under supervision.
• Preventative maintenance: compressor changes, leak searches, coil washing.
• Maintain accurate work tickets and timesheets.
• Use handheld computer for paperwork and invoicing.
• Manage truck inventory and vehicle maintenance program.
• Identify and use standard tools; refrigerant handling (R290).
• Develop customer relations and communicate malfunctions clearly.
• Service walk-in coolers, conventional systems and parallel rack systems.
• Understand refrigeration concepts, sub-cooling, superheat, psychrometrics.
• Read temperature and pressure charts; basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Safely handle refrigerants and hazardous materials.
• De-ice cases, replace fan motors, wash condenser coils.
• Understand system evacuation, charging, pump down, defrost.
• Additional duties as assigned.
