Job summary

Stanford University is seeking a journey-level plumber/HVAC technician to perform maintenance across campus, including plumbing and HVAC systems.

The role requires strong troubleshooting, compliance with codes, and ability to respond to emergencies. This is an essential on-site position with shift expectations Monday–Friday 7:15am–4:15pm, and pay under the university collective bargaining agreement.

The department emphasizes safety, teamwork, and service to Stanford’s campus community.

Qualifications

Education & Experience: Journey level knowledge equivalent to four years of completion in an apprentice program or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
Four years of actual work in the plumber/HVAC trades.
Thorough knowledge of materials and processes of the trade.
Ability to work from plans and specifications.
Must possess and maintain a valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s license.
Preferred: Journeyman card in plumbing/HVAC or other credential.

Responsibilities

Work under general supervision and perform maintenance tasks of substantial complexity in two or more trades
Work following prescribed procedures
Duties are assigned under the direction of a shop manager or lead and are performed with considerable independence
Work will be spot‑checked during an assignment or upon its completion
Employees may work alone, or as a member of a crew (with or without lead responsibility)
