Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with HVAC and plumbing expertise to advance project leadership and deliver resilient, sustainable environments. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with in-office and remote work, and can be based in several U.S.

offices. You will design and review mechanical systems, mentor junior staff, collaborate with sales teams, and contribute to technical knowledge through papers and design documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or Engineering Technology or related discipline.
• EIT or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam within 18 months of hire.
• 5 years of related experience; equivalent additional experience considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC and plumbing systems, including master planning and feasibility studies, integrating sustainability and energy efficiency.
• Review designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and firm policies.
• Perform site reviews to ensure designs align with location specifications.
• Contribute to Technical Knowledge Management with white papers and technical design documentation.
• Attend industry conferences and work with sales teams to maximize outreach.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff and supervise project work.
• Perform other duties as required.
