Job summary

Tech Army, LLC is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer (Mechanical HVAC Design Engineer) to provide design engineering support for our client in the nuclear or process chemical industries. This role requires at least 10 years of HVAC design experience and a strong background in complex systems.

Responsibilities include developing HVAC designs and calculations, preparing P&IDs and equipment lists, coordinating with fire protection, and guiding less senior engineers while supporting

Qualifications

• 10+ years of HVAC design experience in nuclear or process chemical industries.
• PhD/MS/BS with corresponding years as base education/experience.
• PE registration in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear engineering preferred.
• Knowledge of NFPA 90A/90B/91; ASHRAE Fundamentals; ASME AG-1, 509/510; SMACNA; ARI 410/430/450.
• DOE Q security clearance (active not required initially).
• Weekly field walkdowns on uneven surfaces, ladder access, protective clothing.

Responsibilities

• Develop HVAC designs and calculations for equipment sizing, duct sizing, pressure drops, cooling towers, heating and cooling loads, and air balancing.
• Prepare and modify piping and instrumentation diagrams, system descriptions, and mechanical equipment lists.
• Coordinate with fire protection design and review vendor documentation.
• Resolve complex engineering problems, guide less senior professionals, and support project schedules, budgets, and quality reviews.
• Perform field walkdowns and deliver engineering work using company processes and procedures.
