Job summary

NextEra Energy's Florida Power & Light Company seeks a Sr Engineer to lead engineering and execution of complex high-voltage substation projects from planning through commissioning.

You will act as a technical lead, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, manage procurement, and mentor other engineers while upholding safety, quality, and schedule goals in a travel-heavy role in Jupiter, FL.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (non-Engineering Technology) or Master’s in Engineering if bachelor is not in a pure engineering field.
• ABET-accredited engineering program is required.
• 5+ years post-Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• PE license or EI/FE certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex high-voltage substation projects through planning, engineering, procurement, construction, and closeout.
• Provide direction to external EORs and consultants to ensure designs meet standards.
• Review engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications to resolve issues.
• Own major equipment procurement strategies and supplier evaluations.
• Coordinate engineering across substation, transmission, protection/control, civil, and operations teams.
• Support project cost estimates, schedules, contracting strategies, and scope definitions.
• Identify engineering and execution risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Ensure closeout documentation captures final designs and lessons learned.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards.
