Job summary

Spencer Ogden is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to lead the primary engineering and physical design of high‑voltage substations. The role spans AIS and GIS, indoors and outdoors, and requires hands-on execution and coordination with civil, structural, protection and procurement teams.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years' HV substation design experience, proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation, and a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Qualifications

5+ years' experience in HV substation primary engineering/design
Strong hands-on primary substation design experience
Experience with AIS and GIS
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
Ability to independently deliver detailed engineering work

Responsibilities

Developing substation layouts, equipment arrangements, sections and elevations
Designing bus configurations and grounding layouts
Working across AIS and GIS substations, both indoor and outdoor
Coordinating the integration of transformers, GIS/AIS equipment, bus systems, steel structures and conduit systems
Reviewing equipment clearances and building/HVAC interfaces
Supporting projects through engineering, procurement and construction
Providing technical leadership with minimal supervision
