Job summary

The Planet Group in Atlanta is seeking an experienced electrical design professional for a hybrid role. You will design high-voltage substations and develop construction drawings using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical, with limited travel and a Monday–Friday schedule.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 2 days in office

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with flexibility

Travel: Minimal travel for project-related site visits

Salary : $95,000 to $120,000 per year

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in electrical utility design, with strong preference for candidates with 10+ years of substation design experience.
• Demonstrated experience designing high-voltage electrical substations.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
• Ability to develop and interpret:
• Physical substation layouts
• Construction drawings
• Strong understanding of substation equipment, materials, construction methods, and design practices.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering and design teams.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy and quality.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS).
• Experience with AutoCAD Map 3D, Inventor, or other 3D/smart design software.
• Associate degree in Drafting & Design or equivalent technical certification.
• Four-year Engineering Technology degree.
• Experience working with electric utilities, EPC firms, or engineering consulting companies.
• Experience with utility-specific design standards and high-voltage transmission/distribution substations.
