Tech seeks a friendly, detail-oriented, ambitious, and savvy HR Generalist responsible for coordinating and implementing all human resources operations, including employee engagement, risk assessment & legal compliance, recruitment & onboarding, compensation & benefits, and development & training. This individual will work directly with the leadership team, including the business owners, operations manager, people operations lead, and managers. This is an in-office first role with flexibility for work-from-home one day per week. A trip to the office in San Diego, CA may be requested.
We seek an individual with experience and passion for leading the people function at a boutique consultancy or small business operating in a fast-paced tech startup environment. This individual will champion evaluating HR technologies, including AI-powered tools, to enhance efficiency, gather insights, and improve people processes. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in human resources as a coordinator, administrator, and generalist.
Responsibilities include:
- Employee Engagement
- Supporting two-way dialogue and engagement between team members and business partners.
- Encouraging the sharing of concerns so that problems can be solved as soon as possible.
- Acting as the first point of contact for mediating conflict or tension between team members.
- Managing the monthly Team Engagement survey.
- Coordinating and facilitating an all-hands meeting every 6 weeks.
- HR Compliance
- Identifying, assessing, and resolving short- and long-term risks associated with hiring, performance management, employee discipline, or termination.
- Ensuring data and sensitive records are secure and private.
- Managing the Employee Handbook, updating policies in line with state, federal, and local laws.
- Conducting regular compliance audits to evaluate internal policies and procedures and ensure best practices are followed.
- Compensation and Benefits
- Act as the champion and subject matter expert (SME) on the benefits offered.
- Managing benefits renewal in partnership with Bennie.
- Promoting the benefits offered to increase engagement.
- Supporting team members’ questions on benefits, including Medical, dental, vision, life, long-term disability, etc.
- Advising on time off benefits.
- Full Cycle Recruitment
- Developing job descriptions and postings.
- Screening resumes and conducting initial interviews.
- Consulting on hiring decisions, including compensation.
- Proactively building a talent pipeline.
- Coordinating the onboarding processes for new hires.
- Facilitating training sessions and providing coaching.
- Preparing onboarding materials and schedules.
- Leveraging AI-powered platforms for talent sourcing, resume screening, and communicating with candidates to ensure an efficient and positive experience.
- Learning and Development
- Identifying training needs and career development opportunities.
- Collaborating with the People Ops Manager on leadership training initiatives.
- Coordinating and managing annual compliance training.
- Championing training to support the organizational culture of development.
- Evaluating training effectiveness.
- Performance Management
- Collaborating with the People Ops Manager on the annual performance review cycle.
- Coordinating performance check-ins between team members and the leadership team.
- Supporting the design and dissemination of the performance self-assessment form.
- Supporting the leadership team in strategic goal setting.
Experience and qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration or other related field required.
- At least six (6) years of progressive HR experience is required.
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or MBA in Human Resources Management is highly desired.
- Expertise in advising the organization of labor laws for New York and/or California.
- Experience using AI tools and automations for recruitment, employee engagement analysis, and compliance monitoring. Ability to work on simultaneous projects, change tasks quickly, and see projects to completion.
- Exceptional communication, client/customer service, presentation, and analysis skills.
- Expert planning, change management, and problem-solving with a focus on resolving challenges before they become issues.
- Takes initiative, works independently, and is a core part of the operations team.
- Perseverance, resilience, and scrappiness in the face of challenges.
- Proactive can-do attitude with a strong sense of care and urgency.
- Identify inefficiencies and build high-value arguments for process improvement.
- Extremely detail-oriented.
