Job description

We're building much more than powertrain and mobility solutions. We're building the people, culture, systems, and leadership capabilities that will support our next stage of growth.

Over the last 18 months, we have been building our HR function from the ground up. Rather than inheriting a mature HR organization with established processes, policies, and programs, we're creating them. That means there is a unique opportunity to influence how HR operates, improve employee experience, and help shape the future of the organization.

We're looking for an HR Generalist who is equally comfortable supporting day-to-day HR operations while helping us build better processes, stronger programs, and scalable people systems.

This role is ideal for someone who is:

✅ People-focused and genuinely enjoys helping employees and managers succeed

✅ Curious, proactive, and eager to learn

✅ Organized and detail-oriented

✅ Interested in how HR supports broader business goals

✅ Comfortable working in an environment where not everything is fully built yet

✅ Energized by the opportunity to improve and create rather than simply maintain

You'll work directly with the Head of HR & Safety and have exposure to recruiting, onboarding, payroll, training, employee relations, safety, communications, immigration support, talent programs, and special projects.

Our Plymouth, Michigan team supports a wide range of customer programs across automotive and transportation industries. We operate in a highly technical environment where engineers, technicians, and business professionals collaborate to solve challenging problems and support innovation.

We are a growing organization with ambitious goals and close connections to our global teams.

What You'll Do

Lead Core HR Operations

Serve as the primary operational HR resource for the organization, providing hands-on support across the employee lifecycle while ensuring HR processes are effective, compliant, and scalable.

This includes:

  • Payroll coordination and administration
  • Employee relations support and documentation
  • Benefits administration and vendor coordination
  • Policy administration and interpretation
  • HR compliance activities and reporting
  • HR systems administration and data integrity
  • Partnering on talent acquisition and workforce planning

Support Leaders and Employees

Act as a trusted resource for managers and employees while helping build management capability throughout the organization.

This includes:

  • Coaching managers on HR policies and practices
  • Supporting performance management activities
  • Assisting with corrective actions and performance improvement processes
  • Supporting employee relations matters and investigations
  • Helping leaders navigate employee concerns and workplace issues
  • Promoting consistent and fair employment practices

Manage HR Programs and Compliance

Help ensure the organization maintains strong HR practices while reducing organizational risk.

This includes:

  • Employment law compliance
  • Immigration and mobility administration
  • Benefits and leave administration
  • HR policy development and implementation
  • Audit preparation and documentation
  • Regulatory reporting and recordkeeping

Partner in a Growing Organization

This role offers exposure to a broad range of HR responsibilities and the opportunity to work directly with senior leadership on both operational and strategic people initiatives.

You'll contribute to areas such as:

  • Succession planning
  • Workforce planning
  • Organizational growth
  • Employee experience
  • Safety culture initiatives
  • Global HR coordination

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role is not simply completing tasks.

We are looking for someone who wants to understand the business problems behind the work, improve processes, anticipate needs, and help build an HR function that can scale with the company.

The ideal candidate is someone who asks:

  • Why do we do it this way?
  • Is there a better process?
  • Can this be documented?
  • Can this be automated?
  • How does this improve the employee experience?
  • How does this support the business?

We are not simply looking for someone to administer HR processes. We are looking for a business-minded HR professional who is curious, proactive, and capable of partnering with leaders to solve problems, improve employee experience, strengthen organizational capability, and help build the systems, processes, and programs that will support our next stage of growth.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of Human Resources experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Communications, Organizational Development, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting payroll, recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, or HR operations
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and strong follow-through
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
  • Experience with HR systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Human Resources Management, Industrial & Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in automotive engineering, manufacturing, technical, or professional services environments

  • Experience supporting internship, co-op, or campus recruiting programs
  • Continuous improvement mindset and interest in process design

Why Dumarey?

  • Direct visibility to senior leadership
  • Opportunity to shape and improve HR programs
