Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking an HPC Linux Systems Engineer to support Frontier and other HPC resources. You will work in the NCCS Systems Section to install, deploy, and maintain large-scale HPC clusters, networks, and storage, applying security best practices.

The role includes on-call rotations, 24x7 support windows, and collaboration with vendors and internal teams to ensure performance, reliability, and security aligned with ORNL values.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific or technical field.
• 8+ years of Linux systems experience.
• Experience with security policies/compliance frameworks (NIST, DISA STIGs).
• Experience designing and deploying HPC systems for classified environments.

Responsibilities

• Install, integrate, and administer HPC Linux clusters and high-speed networks.
• Diagnose system operational problems quickly and effectively.
• Coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware/software issues.
• Port and write system management tools; document procedures.
