Job summary

Cadre5, based near Knoxville, TN, partners with NCCS/ORNL to recruit a Senior HPC Linux Systems Engineer for advanced, secure HPC environments including Frontier and other clusters. The role emphasizes system installation, performance tuning, and on-call support within the NCCS division.

The ideal candidate will have extensive Linux experience, HPC design expertise, and a track record in security compliance, with US citizenship and DOE Q clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a scientific or technical field and 5–8 years of Linux systems experience required.
• 8+ years of Linux systems experience required.
• Experience with security policies and frameworks (NIST, DISA STIGs) in classified environments.
• Ability to obtain DoE clearance (requires US citizenship), SCI/DOJQ eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Install, integrate, and administer HPC Linux clusters and high-speed networks.
• Diagnose system operational problems quickly and effectively.
• Coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues.
• Port and write system management tools; document procedures.
• Provide 24/7 on-call support and off-hours maintenance.
• Lead deployment and troubleshooting of large-scale systems.
• Mentor junior staff joining the group.
