Job summary

AbbVie Information Research (IR) seeks a highly motivated HPC Architect to lead the design and operation of on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid high performance computing platforms across compute, GPU, networking, storage, and software services. This role demands hands‑on experience with HPC infrastructure, AWS, Slurm, containerization, and secure enterprise IT practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field with 7 years of experience; OR Masters Degree with 6 years of experience; OR PhD 2 years experience.
• Leadership experience, ability to guide and influence technical teams and stakeholders.
• Expert knowledge of Linux, HPC compute and GPU architectures, MPI, NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA, and hardware lifecycle management.
• Strong experience with Slurm: partitions, queues, scheduling policies, GPU scheduling, accounting, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Experience designing and operating cloud and hybrid HPC solutions with IaC, automation, and cost management.
• Experience with identity services, security, vulnerability management, and compliance in enterprise IT.
• Experience with observability, monitoring, and incident response in scientific computing environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical architect for AbbVie IR’s on-premises, cloud, and hybrid HPC environments.
• Architect and evolve HPC compute, networking, and storage platforms.
• Design, implement, and support HPC infrastructure (compute, networking, storage).
• Administer and optimize Slurm workload management and GPU scheduling.
• Establish secure container environments using Apptainer/Singularity and Docker workflows.
• Integrate analytics platforms (Posit Workbench/Connect) with Slurm, storage, GPUs, and identity services.
• Lead automation for provisioning, configuration, patching, testing, monitoring, and lifecycle activities.
• Maintain architecture diagrams, runbooks, and monitoring dashboards; address technical debt and risks.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship; engage with vendors and R&D teams.
