Job summary

New York University seeks a Senior Computational Specialist to support scholars using NYU’s extensive HPC and AI tools. You will consult with researchers to solve complex computational problems, design efficient algorithms, and develop applications that scale on large clusters.

The role includes creating training materials, running sessions, and maintaining online docs to help researchers utilize HPC resources effectively.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or related field with strong scientific computing emphasis.
• Doctoral degree preferred; 7+ years of HPC-related work desired.
• 5+ years of HPC programming, job scheduling, compilers, performance libraries.
• Experience with high-level languages such as C++, Fortran, Python, Java, Matlab.
• Experience with HPC infrastructure workflows, resource managers, data transfer and sharing tools.
• Experience with Big Data and knowledge of big data infrastructure.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, including documentation and customer support.
• Preferred: 7+ years in academic research environments; ability to architect and deploy HPC applications.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level support to researchers using NYU’s research computing infrastructure and services.
• Consult with researchers to solve computational problems, design algorithms, develop applications.
• Advise on configurations, practices, and policies to improve performance.
• Develop training material, conduct sessions, and provide online documentation for HPC and AI tooling.
• Define and build new research services; collaborate with NYU IT for testing and maintenance.
• Support testing, benchmarking, and troubleshooting of HPC resources.
