Job summary

The Melrose Georgetown Hotel in Washington, DC seeks a Chief Engineer to oversee the Engineering Department, ensuring all systems operate to highest standards. This full-time role focuses on preventive maintenance, safety, and guest experience, with leadership responsibilities across the property.

Candidates should have hotel engineering experience (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building construction), be able to read drawings, and manage a team including hiring and training.

Qualifications

• Previous hotel engineering experience required, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, commercial kitchen and general building construction.
• State certification or licensure where required; vocational training or degree preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, diagrams and blueprints; read test equipment and measuring devices.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the hotel is in great working order and meets operational standards for the Engineering Department.
• Conduct walk-throughs and assess maintenance and operation of hotel systems and equipment.
• Oversee Rooms and Public Area Preventive Maintenance Program and keep records updated.
• Collaborate with hotel management and the General Manager.
• Hire, train, supervise, coach and counsel associates, including managers.
• Maintain grounds to provide a great arrival experience.
• Implement safety and emergency policies and procedures (OSHA HazCom, evacuations, first aid) with hazards mitigation.
