Job summary

Janko Hospitality seeks a Chief Engineer for Hyatt Place Milwaukee Downtown to maintain the hotel's physical assets and ensure compliance with brand standards and safety regulations. You will oversee facilities maintenance, manage a team of engineers, and safeguard guest comfort and operational excellence.

The role requires strong leadership, budgeting, and fault diagnosis across MEP systems, with a focus on reliability, safety, and guest satisfaction at a premier downtown property.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required.
• Experience: 2 years in maintenance/groundskeeping; 5 years in hospitality engineering with at least 2 years as Maintenance Engineer in a Select Service Hotel.
• Technical Education: College or trade school in mechanical/electrical/technical disciplines is a plus.
• Licenses/Certifications: HVAC/plumbing/electrical certs preferred; Certified Pool Operator may be required.
• Experience with Systems: Knowledge of general repair, plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems.
• Hotel Maintenance Experience: Previous hotel maintenance experience preferred.
• Customer Service: Friendly demeanor with strong customer service and communication skills.
• Efficiency & Organization: Ability to work under time constraints and manage multiple tasks.
• Independence & Teamwork: Able to work independently and with others.

Responsibilities

• Schedule Flexibility to work holidays, weekends, and extended hours.
• On-Call 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
• Oversee budgeting and cost control for the engineering dept.
• Maintain preventive maintenance records.
• Manage requisitions for replacement parts and materials.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Train and guide staff in engineering best practices.
• Interpret design drawings and manuals to troubleshoot systems.
• Supervise Engineering team (≥4 engineers).
• Maintain safety and security standards; report major repair needs to GM.
• Support capital projects and contract administration as needed.
• Inspect and maintain major hotel systems (water, electric, sprinkler, fire alarm).
• Perform basic upkeep and repairs in rooms and public areas.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, HAZCOM, and safety policies.
