Job summary

The Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office, Homicide Unit, seeks an experienced Assistant State's Attorney to handle the most serious homicide prosecutions from investigation through trial and disposition.

This senior litigation role requires extensive courtroom experience, independent case management, and the ability to advise law enforcement during investigations while upholding ethical standards and constitutional requirements.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Maryland Bar in good standing.
• Minimum of five (5) years of criminal litigation experience with substantial felony trial experience.
• Experience serving as lead counsel in jury trials involving serious felony offenses.
• Thorough knowledge of Maryland criminal law, procedures, and the Rules of Evidence.

Responsibilities

• Review homicide investigations, police reports, and forensic evidence to determine prosecutorial merit.
• Provide legal guidance to law enforcement during investigations, including warrants and charging decisions.
• Prepare homicide and major felony cases for prosecution through all proceedings.
• Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and warrants.
• Interview victims, witnesses, officers, and experts in preparation for court.
• Represent the State in bond hearings, preliminary hearings, motions hearings, and trials.
