Job summary

The State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation Division, seeks a Historic Preservation Archaeologist IV located on Kauai, with responsibilities for complex analyses, reports, and supervisory tasks across islands. The incumbent documents determinations and maintains accessible records, reporting to the Archaeology Branch Chief.

Qualifications include a master’s degree in archaeology or anthropology and 3 years of Pacific archaeology experience;

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in archaeology or anthropology.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in Pacific archaeology reviewing various archaeological reports for compliance with State and Federal law and/or conducting archaeological field work.
  • Leadership skills to direct all review work for assigned island and establish positive working relationships with government and private entities.
  • Ability to participate in rough terrain work including dusty, hot and confined areas.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Handle the full range of archaeological duties and issues, including the most complex analyses, reviews, and document preparation.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities of archaeological activities and subordinate personnel, and may oversee daily archaeological operations of an assigned island or islands.
  • Properly document in writing all determinations, recommendations, and investigations; maintain records and files for public access.
