Job summary

Society for Hawaiian Archaeology in Honolulu is seeking an Archaeology Field Technician to conduct intensive survey, excavation, and monitoring of construction-related activities. The role requires attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to work independently or in a team across diverse field conditions.

Qualifications

• This role requires completion of an archaeology field school or equivalent field/lab experience.
• Experience with professional archaeology principles and field/lab workflows.
• Supervised field and analytic experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Recognize surface and subsurface archaeological resources.
• Conduct field surveys to identify and record cultural resources.
• Perform unit excavation, photography, and exploratory trenching with careful record-keeping.
• Document and describe soil profiles.
• Use GPS to record locations of cultural resources.
• Prepare plan view and profile drawings according to mapping conventions.
• Complete field forms accurately and efficiently.
• Assist with fieldwork, including laboratory analysis.
• Catalog materials, bag, tag items, and complete data entry.
• Photograph artifacts in laboratory and field settings.
• Annotate digital field photos for reports.
