Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a Senior HIM Specialist to support health information management across the full patient record lifecycle. You will manage complex workflows, including document imaging, chart analysis, data integrity resolution, and ROI processing in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires strong HIM expertise, independent judgment, and the ability to work under pressure while ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years minimum HIM experience in an acute care or healthcare setting.
• Experience with EMR systems and HIM applications required.
• High School Diploma or GED upon hire or
• RHIT/RHIA in progress or healthcare/business degree progression preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced HIM functions including document imaging (prep, scan, index, quality review).
• Analyze medical records for completeness; assign and manage deficiencies per regulatory requirements.
• Investigate and resolve data integrity issues (e.g., duplicate or unlinked medical record numbers) and maintain Master Patient Index accuracy.
• Process and reconcile rejected orders and support provider completion workflows.
• Support and process release of information (ROI) requests in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Ensure adherence to HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements.
