Job summary

The State of Nevada, Department of Transportation, is recruiting for a Highway Maintenance Worker 4 in Las Vegas, NV. The incumbent will lead a roadway crew, oversee maintenance activities, and respond to emergencies to protect the public.

The role requires high school completion and prior experience as Highway Maintenance Worker III or an equivalent combination of education and experience; on-site work with various road maintenance tasks and equipment operation.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate and perform preventive maintenance and minor repair on highway maintenance and construction equipment.
• Act as designated certified operator for certification of Highway Maintenance Worker I’s and II’s; demonstrate and oversee equipment operation and provide training in safety policies.
• Install long line, solid and skip lines and gore lines; measure and install permanent and temporary pavement markings.
• Apply chip and flush seals to overlays and cold milling; provide input into the Maintenance Management System and respond to customer service requests.
• Establish traffic controls to reroute or control traffic in maintenance areas or accident scenes.
• Mix salt and sand stockpiles; remove snow with dump trucks and snow plows; operate brine making facilities.
• Maintain radio contact with base station and law enforcement; respond to emergencies using Incident Command System protocols.
• Install, repair, and replace roadway signs, signposts, bulbs, fixtures, and sensors; clean overhead sign panels.
• Monitor contract compliance and quality control of work performed by contractors.
• Maintain landscaped areas and right-of-way; perform tree work and lawn maintenance; remove debris and hazards.
