Qualifications

• Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 1 year of education and experience after completion of high school.
• License/Certification: Valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A (CDL-A) with appropriate tank endorsement.
• Other Requirements: 1. MVR must meet minimum standards. 2. CDL medical card if not currently state employee. 3. Negative drug screen per CFR and US DOT. 4. Lift/carry up to 50 lbs. 5. Must have phone and be available 24 hours.

Responsibilities

• Operates and troubleshoots complex highway maintenance/construction equipment, machinery, and/or vehicle components used in construction and maintenance of the State Highway System; includes snow/ice removal and flood mitigation.
• Maintains equipment, performs field adjustments and emergency repairs to keep serviceable.
• Determines actions for road conditions during winter storms and trains/ supervises entry-level staff.
• Supervises small crews and contractors to ensure safety and environmental practices; addresses personnel issues and suggests improvements.
• Works under adverse conditions with exposure to traffic and hazards to ensure public safety.
• Performs heavy physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
