Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a dynamic senior substation engineer to oversee the design and EPC delivery of high voltage substations for renewable energy projects in the Eastern US. You will lead technical discussions with EPCs, utilities, and stakeholders to ensure compliant, safe, and efficient designs.

The role focuses on input to design packages, field oversight during commissioning, and coordinating with interconnection providers to meet project requirements.

Qualifications

• BS Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power Systems.
• 7+ years of substation design experience (Physical or P&C).
• 2+ years of project engineering experience in HV role.

Responsibilities

• Oversee EPC contractor engineering design and construction for HV substations and transmission lines (35kV–500kV).
• Establish and maintain relationships with high voltage contractors.
• Review Substation EPC designs for interconnection requirements and reliability standards.
• Provide design review and guidance on technical issues in project documentation.
• Review power system studies (load flow, short circuits, harmonics, TOV, insulation coordination).
• Coordinate with interconnection providers to design collector substations per provider requirements.
• Support substation commissioning by reviewing testing and coordinating with utilities/ISO.
• Collaborate with project team across management, development, permitting, finance, and construction.
• Travel and fieldwork ~25%; projects primarily in Eastern or Central US.
