Job summary

City of Johnson City in Tennessee seeks a Motor Equipment Operator III for Water & Sewer Services. You will operate heavy equipment and assist in installing water/wastewater infrastructure, with supervision from a superior as needed.

The role requires completion of high school or GED and substantial experience with heavy equipment, including CDL Class A. Pre-employment checks apply and safety testing is required.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and safety precautions for heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of operation and care of heavy construction equipment; knowledge of street paving processes.
• Ability to work independently and understand oral/written instructions.
• Ability to perform maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment such as graders, scrapers, large backhoes, loaders, tub grinders, and compactors.
• Operates motor grader for snow removal, grading, ditching, and base material spreading.
• Operates bulldozer and motor scraper for digging, loading, and general construction.
• Services and repairs assigned equipment; assists mechanics.
• Instructs lower level operators in operation and servicing of equipment.
• Installs water/wastewater lines, taps, meters, hydrants.
